Enhancing the materiality principle in integrated reporting by adopting the General Systems Theory

This article aims to explore the effectiveness of materiality principle (MP) within Integrated Reporting (IR) by applying General Systems Theory (GST) Ludwig von Bertalanffy. GST, its holistic approach, can be used identify main sub-systems in which regulation IR articulated and relationships between themselves, make MP effective, thereby improving quality regulation. While much research has analyzed assessment impact on disclosure, little is known about how affects this principle. addresses gap explaining that not a stand-alone but needs supported other principles effectively enacted. Our findings improve providing better understanding meaning helpful for managers, standard setters professional bodies.
